Adopt a Loving Companion from Down South Havanese & Bichon Frise Breeder

Hypoglycemia

Toy breeds are prone to having hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar. The condition is not a disease or an illness, it is a symptom. It is a result of having too little glucose in the blood stream. Glucose feeds brain and muscles. It is the fuel for the body. When the puppy's blood sugar gets low it can get lethargic and have a seizure. It can be life threatening if not treated fast and in the appropriate manner. If you puppy is hypoglycemic he will not eat. Getting their blood sugar up by giving them Karo or nutrical will trigger them to eat. You will likely need to keep Karo syrup or Nutrical on hand.
